Asher Michael arrived on Sunday, September 4th. His due date was actually the 15th, so he was 11 days early. Assuming that I would have until the 15th, my last day of work was Tuesday, the 30th of August. So actually, I ended up only getting a few days of last minute things finished before we headed to the hospital. On Friday, I was able to put together a few last-minute touches to his room and managed to do a little cleaning around the house in case he came soon.
On Sunday morning I woke up to go to the bathroom. As soon as I went back to bed, I noticed a bit of "leaking," thinking I might have just not got it all out. Well, as the morning continued I kept having just a small amount of leaking about every half hour. I told Chris, but because I wasn't having any contractions or other signs of labor, we didn't immediately go to the hospital. So, after about 4 hours of this "trickling" we decided to call my doctor. She told us to go ahead and go to the hospital.
As soon as we arrived at the hospital around noon, they put us in a room and had me get into the lovely hospital gown. Since we still weren't sure if I was in labor or not, they took a swab of the fluid to see if it really was amniotic fluid. After about thirty minutes, the nurse came in and said "We are having a baby today, your water DID break!"
By 1:30, I was hooked up to IV fluids and they started me on a Pitocin drip to start my labor. Shortly, the nurse anesthetist came in to give me my epidural...As you can tell, I LOVED the epidural. It was the best my body had felt in months. The last few months of pregnancy, I had a horrible pain in my lower back and tail bone, so this was the first time that I didn't feel that pain and it was very nice. I only felt about 8 contractions before the epidural worked it's magic. From 2:30-6:30, I just relaxed and ate popsicles. It was crazy how fast the time flew by.
My mom and I right before it was time for me to start pushing.
Chris and I getting our last kiss before we are parents!!!
The nurses were great with coaching me through the pushing process. They all said I did great, and after only 20 minutes of pushing, baby Asher arrived!
My doctor let Chris cut the Umbilical cord!
Asher was 8 lbs 6 oz, and 21.75 inches long! Good thing he came 11 days early!
Proud Momma!
Chris was so happy holding him! It made me melt!
First family picture!
Along with my Mom, Chris' parents and my Dad and Brenda were at the hospital waiting to meet baby Asher. About an hour after he was born, they were able to come into the room to meet him. It was nice to have them there to share in our special day.
After Asher arrived, we were moved to a different room where we stayed 2 nights. The nurses were all so great! The food was delicious--we had a steak and lobster dinner the 2nd night! Overall, our hospital experience was fantastic! We used Baylor Medical Center of Frisco and definitely were impressed with everything there. It was a perfect weekend to have baby Asher come into our world!
Getting ready to leave the hospital and head home!
